Who We Are

We look forward to meeting you! Join us Sundays at 11 a.m. at 6 Eliot Street. Find information about entrances, location, and accessibility here. To learn more about events and groups, sign up for our weekly email newsletter here.

Welcome

We are so glad you are here! We are a congregation diverse in belief and united in the power of love and the strength of community. We are reverent and playful, contemplative and joyful, seeking to put liberating love at the center of our lives.

We gather in worship to center in the Love that holds us all, just as we are, and which calls us forward to greater wholeness, compassion, and integrity. Read about what to expect in Sunday morning worship here.

Our building at Centre and Eliot is a community center in the heart of Jamaica Plain, home to the energy and creativity of KidsArts, a community-based after school arts program, Nehar Shalom Community Synagogue, several dance groups, twelve-step meetings, political groups, and arts events.

We welcome you: your whole self, with all your truths and your doubts, your worries and your hopes. Join us on this extraordinary adventure of faith.

Hope to see you in church!

About Unitarian Universalism

Unitarian Universalism draws from our heritages of freedom, reason, hope, and courage, building on the foundation of love. We covenant, congregation-to-congregation and through our Association, to support and assist one another in our ministries.

Our faith tradition is diverse and inclusive. Our denomination grew from the union of two liberal Christian groups: the Universalists, who organized in 1793, and the Unitarians, who organized in 1825. They joined to become the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) in 1961. Both groups trace their roots in North America to the early Massachusetts settlers. Across the globe, our legacy reaches back centuries to liberal religious pioneers in England, Poland, and Transylvania. Today, Unitarian Universalists (UU) include people of many beliefs who share UU values of love, equity, and understanding. We strive to be creators of positive change in people and in the world.

Our Values

Love is the power that holds us together and is at the center of our shared values. The UU values we share include all the following, which we hold as inseparable and deeply interconnected.

  • Interdependence

We honor the interdependent web of all existence and acknowledge our place in it.

  • Pluralism

We are all sacred beings, diverse in culture, experience, and theology.

  • Justice

We work to be diverse multicultural Beloved Communities where all feel welcome and can thrive.

  • Transformation

We adapt to the changing world.

  • Generosity

We cultivate a spirit of gratitude and hope.

  • Equity

We declare that every person is inherently worthy and has the right to flourish with dignity, love, and compassion.

Our Mission

We are an open and caring congregation. We nurture spiritual growth through worship, education, social justice, and service to others.

Our Vision

Our congregation is a source of sanctuary and inspiration. We embrace creativity, inclusiveness, and spiritual exploration. We share humane values and we work together to create a better world.

Welcome and Inclusion

Radical inclusion is one of our highest aspirations. As UUs, we work to be diverse multicultural Beloved Communities where all thrive, doing our part to dismantle racism and all forms of systemic oppression. Embracing transgender, nonbinary, intersex and gender diverse people is a fundamental expression of UU religious values. We are a Welcoming Congregation, which means we have done specific, intentional work to welcome LGBTQIA+ people.
